Now that I have my river rocks and driftwood cleaned and disinfected....

keith_ecko Aug 11, 2003 03:45 PM

Is there some kind of non toxic safe water sealant that I should use on them to keep away bacteria or should they be fine??? The driftwood is from outside too...Actually have it in the oven now as I speak...

And oh someone told me the rocks could explode if you put them in the oven! Is that true or is he pulling my leg????

its possible for the rocks to crack due to water present in them also depending on the type of rocks you are using, but they won't "explode".

if you are using a very porous rock that was in water or wet, it could crack and/or explode. Porous rock would be sandstone, that rock that actually floats (looks like a petrified sponge but can't remember it's name) or hard clay. Even then I doubt the rock would explode unless you cook it like 500 F then drop it in cold water.
