Couple more from down south

Here are a few more snakes found this weekend. A very dark atrox that I can almost always count on being under the same road speed sign from Jim Wells county. Todays' significant find comes from Nueces county on the lee side of Mustang Island, not real purdy but a welcome sight for these poor hunters eyes! Mexican milk snake, old and going into shed. Found many other herps, hope the gentile rains and warming conditions continue! Haven't found an annulatta there in 10 years, found by friends in my company. Also flipped was a yearling coachwhip, an atrox with a serious eye problem and a splendida subadult. A very fine day!

Todd,
You're killing me with all these finds already!

I've come to the conclusion that there are NO snakes here in Central Texas! I know it's probably early up here yet, but it's been nice and warm here for the past week or so- I'm getting impatient!

Visited that pond near my place again today, and frogs EVERYWHERE! !!

I'm going to KEEP visiting that pond until I find a land animal that doesn't have any legs!

Austin has a lot of herps, it's coming! You may have to get a little out of the city limits but road cruising begins in earnest at night when the temps hold at 70 or better. Flip trash and rocks, you will prevail!

Looks and sounds like you had a good few days herping. Love the atrox and annulata pics. Hope your good snake weather keeps up down there too. Maybe you could send some our way. A bit too cold here @ the moment.

Tell ya true though, if you can't stand the heat in summer it can be brutal! Can't wait for some road cruising at night!

Hey, Jason, I am beyond ready! Every chance I get I've been out on foot in the hills here in Chatsworth. Yesterday in the reservoir w/ SWHS found an SD Gopher and a rattler. Today I found a Ringneck (D. p. modestus) and a CA slender salamander under one of my tin piles along w/ the usual lizards and toads. I checked the temps out @ our cruising spots. It's gonna be getting up into the 80's in the middle of next week. Probably good time to cruise for Longnose. I'm still depressed over that clarus phase we found DOR in Borrego last year.
