While you guys were hard at work.....

I was bein bad again! Did a 1/2 days work and scrambled to catch up with a group that came in from Galveston. They had already secured a splendida from Mustang Island and I showed them a few spots and I'll be damned if they didn't flip an annulatta in my "back yard"! We also flipped a coachwhip, and an atrox with a serious eye infection was almost trod upon. It might have been a bad scene if that d-back had two good eyes! All in all it was a great day, can't wait to get back in alternaland! Couple snakes from this week, and my c.b. generic to stay on track!

That's interesting, because I had once found a large, gravid, female Indigo in that part of the world, also with an eye infection. I wonder if some type of bacteria is present in that part of the world that affects snakes there from time to time. Have you, or anyone else, found any other herps in the past with this problem? See ya soon, bro!

A lot of the N. rhombifer had eye infections were I caught them as a kid but I attributted it from the waste water they lived in. A few unshed caps that piled up were the only others I had seen in w.c.'s, although the indies can be heavily parisitized from their anuran diet.

Did the group consist of Robert Edwards, Ryan Nelson and another person from the Houston area? These guys were out there too. Did not hear about an annulata though.

Yep, they were they group, Robert flipped the annulatta, it was drab and had a couple crossovers, not what I was used to seeing in my area.

That is a neat looking annulata, what where the time and temps for that guy, if you know them? I have a place near Kingsville, where I have about 48 boards (depends on if any have been stolen) on baffin bay, that I can flip, but have yet to figure out times of when to do it.

Time was about 5:00 p.m. and they temps had been in the mid 80's that day so probly about 78-80. Seems February is a good time to flip them, I have only found them in late spring early summer road cruising at night. The pair I found 10 years ago at the same spot were out on the road at mid summer around 9:30 p.m.

Good job, Todd. I would have liked to join Robert down there but had stuff come up. I will for sure be down there the second week of March. Are you interested in getting out?

Later, Scott
