Master Chef? Famous Artist? or Combo

WALL2WALLREPTILE Feb 25, 2007 12:28 PM

Breeding Ball Pythons is like baking a cake.
For those of you who may only spend your time in the kitchen while eating…not actually cooking or baking…allow me to explain my point of view:
If you want to bake a Chocolate Cake it will require that you have certain ingredients.
You combine these ingredients by following the Recipe…plop it in the oven and Shazzam! There is a beautiful Chocolate Cake!
Now, when you want to make an AWESOME new Ball Python Combo Morph (one that has not even been produced yet) it will require some special ingredients. Perhaps a little "Butter",
or a dash of "Cinnamon". Carefully combine these ingredients with some "Vanilla" and a good helping of "Super Chocolate"!!!
Now you have a new beautiful creation to wet the appetites of any Reptile Enthusiast!
My point is that you still need all of the ingredients. And, this alone should keep the value of the base morphs strong. The new and interesting morph combos we produce should inspire new keepers. They will want the same quality ingredients that we used in our own recipes to Bake..(incubate) and hatch out their own wonderful artistic creations. With a little imagination perhaps they can combine the ingredients in a new way and make something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
The base morphs are also a lot like primary colors:
Very few artists would use a palate without some combination of Red, Yellow and Blue.
If you were to exclude one of these Available Primary Colors, you would also limit your number of endless possible color combinations.
This might leave you in a very “Blue Period!”
Ha ha.
But seriously, think back to your first Ball Python Morph….
Even if you obtained the least expensive male, I bet you wanted to combine it with something worthy of breeding….something special… SEVERAL interesting looking females. So, you dug a little deeper into your pockets or saved up until you could afford a female of another morph….and Another….and ANOTHER!
Wait a minute. Now you have a collection. And once you know how to paint…you want to use all of the “Colors and Patterns” available. The Combos are LIMITLESS!
Someone did a lot of work just to prove that single trait is inheritable.
You buy that gene.
Raise up a great looking Ball Python.
Cycle it for breeding.
Combine it with another interesting gene.
Incubate the eggs.
Get the babies started feeding.
You have done a lot of work. It has cost you in both money and time.
Why not work just as hard to sell it for a worthy price?
Some people run a good race…right up to the finish line…. and then whimp out before winning.
I do not understand the “sell it cheap” philosophy.
I have heard a saying…“It is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.”
But I think perhaps…“It is only worth what you are willing to ACCEPT for it.”
Don’t accept a cheap payoff for YOUR hard work.
While everyone enjoys a good deal, I guarantee that the “new guys/gals on the block” will appreciate
a stable market even more! Their investments and artistic tastes should pay off for them as well.
The Triple and Quadruple combos that WE CREATE will inspire multitudes of new customers who will wish to begin cooking with some Genuine Quality Ingredients. These budding new artists will be happy to pay for truly Crisp Clear looking Primary Colors. Who knows? Perhaps they will become the next Claude Monet, Rembrandt or Picasso...or Wolfgang Puck!
Enjoy your Hobby or Business.
Your effort is only worth what you are willing to accept for it.
