Premies

SenorSnake Feb 25, 2007 01:58 PM

Our girl was supposed to be due next month, right now I just looked in her cage and there is a few premature babies. We're working on getting her out (shes very agressive right now). I was wondering, since there are so few babies, is it possible for her to still be gravid with others?

It has happened. I know Jeff Ronne had a litter of Het Carmels last year and one male was born early with the pre-birth waxy stool. I remember this because the little "turd" was born on my birthday.

Good luck with them!

How early can the waxy stool come? She is due march 23rd, are the chances hig hthat this is what happened?

Any tips on gettign her out?
So far we have tried (semi-successfully) putting a pillow case over a cane and lowering onto her head, and trying to get her head in the opening so we can pin her down with the cane, and grab her.

any other suggestions?

It was quite sad, a whole month early, and of the 4 or 5 babies she let go of, 2 or 3 were alive, but being a month premature i dont think they will make it.
so 2 questions:
1. is there any possibility they will live (my logic says no, but im sad and hoping yes)
2. how is the best way to kill them? I dont want them to slowly suffer to death.

Let her be but keep a watchful eye on her just in case she has more pups in her. I would get the babies out that she had and see if they are old enough to survive....Keep them moist and warm in a tub....good luck.

First off, leave the adult female alone, the only thing you are doing by trying to move her is making matters worse. Remove the premie babies, set them up on moist warm paper towels in a rack or cage with a water dish and keep them moist.

The premies may make it or not, but by stressing the mother you are asking for more problems with the babies she has in her plus health concerns for the mother.
