Premie Update

SenorSnake Feb 25, 2007 03:10 PM

There was a total of 5 premies and no slugs, so we think she may be carrying more, but who knows (she was 25lbs before breeding, so its a small clutch for her). 3 Hypos and 2 Normals. The circleback was breathing, but obviously won't survive.

This is our first breeding so we're a little down, but I guess its good to get the negatives of breeding out of the way so we can deal with it and move on.

Aww you still might have some healthy babies to come. Take each premie and put it in a deli cup with a little water with the big old yolk. Later you can tie off the yolk that's left over with dental floss. I am no expert but that is what I know to do. Maybe someone else here will tell you about tieieng off the yolks. Don't move the female unless you absolutely have to. She might still be gravid.

Best of luck,

The mother is a 50% het albino, 3 years old, 7 ft and 25lbs before breeding. She was bred by both a DH sunglow and a 100% het albino (I believe the normals were from the 100% het because he shares the circleback pattern both the normals had.)

We kept the temperatures at 80-90, and her body temperature usually varied between 87-88. She had come down with a mild RI, and it had cleared up with a couple doses of Fortaz earlier in her pregnancy. We had fed her 1 small rat every 3 weeks up to this point.
