Need advice on breeding.....

Colorfulcorns Feb 25, 2007 04:00 PM

This year I didn't brumate my corns and as of today they have all shed....My Blizzard just shed and I put my snow in with her and he reacted with the normal jerking but stopped after a couple of minutes without mating....
I have also had him in with the Banded ...also nothing....
Should I mist them?
How long should I leave them together?

Thanks for any ideas....

I will usually leave the pairs together for at least 2-3 weeks. I will still separate and feed every week during that time. Don't get overly concerned about witnessing mating, if you're seeing some signs of interest, they will undoubtedly connect at some point soon.

well i hope your right, my pair of GPR's arent currently doing anything for me,the females showing interest but the males not, im praying on hatchlings this year from these so im real worried.ther male is a amelanistic so i have high hopes for the future of these guys . is there anything else u can do to induce activity? ive had snakes refuse to breed but eventualy gave in but they were all just regular snakes nothin this high in value to be worried about, this is the only good project i got for this year. i figured if i dont get any luck with them i will just rehibernate them in the late summer with a refridgerator. but i would like to not have to do that. ya know

I wouldn't worry. I have had pairs lock up the first hour they were together & I've had pairs that were together over a month before they locked up. I've also had pairs produce even though I had never seen any mating or courting. Misting in the evening can sometimes get them started.

The best advice I can give you is to just be patient and don't stress out. Just put them together and let nature take it's course. When I first started breeding I used to put pairs together and if I didn't see any activity within a day or two I would assume they weren't ready yet and separate them for another week and then try again. With all those interuptions, many of the pairings just never had the time to get their job done and I had very few females lay eggs.

A lot of times I will put a pair together and keep them together until I see the female swelling up with eggs.
