photographing chams

How do you guys go about getting good shots of your chams? I just can't seem to get a really good pic to come out, they are either blurry, too dark ,too light, or he runs away or he turns all dark and not as pretty so I don't even want to take the shot. Ant suggestions. I have a decent camera, it's a sony 5 megapixel digital, and I've tried every flash setting. It's funny, I paint him in oils on canvas but I can't take a stinkin' picture. This is pretty much my best one so far.

i'd suggest using the flower setting(close ups) and try to take some pics while hes on your hand or arm..taking pics of them in their cages can be hard since the basking light and flor. light change the lighting and can sometimes make it hard to even see your cham..the pic you posted is a good one..you should take a pic and put up one of your paintings on here soo we can see..you should be able to get some good pics soon,it sometimes can take time for a good one,or you could get one the first try.check out my pics and tell me what ya think

Just keep trying. Eventually you'll get a good one.

If your camera has a macro feature you will be surprised at how much nicer the pics will come out. Take a look at your camera settings. The setting will look like a flower. Depending on the feature of your camera will determine how close you can get while using it. My camera will allow me up to 1.6" from the subject but I normally am 18" from the subject I am shooting.
