amount and concentration of Panacur/Flagyl to administer for 15 gram lizard

andrewhedlund May 21, 2003 09:33 AM

What amount and concentration of Panacur and/or Flagyl would be proper for a 15 gram frilled? I have already brought him to a vet. They gave him a drop of each. He came back temporarily two days later and started to eat again, but soon went back to his previous bad condition. It obviously doesn't take a genius to properly administer this stuff, and I am not about to bring him back to the vet again, just to get one or two drops of this stuff. She told me to come back in three weeks! That gives plenty of time for the larva to come back and reproduce several times over(depending on what species), not to mention I am paying more money the lizard itself costed. I gave her a fecal sample and she didn't even test it. If he doesn't get proper treatment soon, he might very well die. I would greatly appreciate if someone could offer me an effective treatment regimen. I am not afraid to slightly over dose as he is on his last legs

Both panacur and flagyl are typically given in one dose, followed by a second dose in two weeks. Panacur is .1 per 100 grams, flagyl .2 per 100 grams. So, yes, you would just need a drop. I would forcefeed as well and get as much fluids into him as possible.
Another option is to try parazap (www.parazap.com)--this is a natural dewormer that also has a strong appetite stimulant. I would not use all three though.
Do I remember correctly that you just got this guy in? If so, I would definitely contact the person you bought from to let them know and see if they do not offer some help/compensation.
Good luck
Dana
