breeding 100% het albinos together..

ginevive Feb 25, 2007 09:00 PM

..what is the likely ratio of offspring?
For anyone who bred 100% het albinos together, what did you get?
-----
Frogs: 2.3 African Clawed (2.3 albino.) 0.1.1 Albino Horned Frogs, one pre 1999, one this year's. Also: 5.4 ball pythons (one spider, one pastel.) 1.0 Boa Constrictor Imperator. 0.0.3 rat snakes, 0.2 horses (paint mares) 1.0 black cat, 1.0 fiancee'. And a ton of freshwater fish.

100% het meaning that they are nonvisual carriers of a gene (recessive). This means that you will get 25% normal offspring (do not carry the gene at all), 50% het offspring (same as parents), and 25% visual carriers (in this case, albinos).

Look up "Punnett's Square" and you'll see how I got those numbers. It doesn't always go exactly in those ratios, but that's where people get the numbers for things like 66% het.

I can tell you that a pair of 100% het albino that were bred last year produced 2 albinos and 5 normals that are 66% het for albino. That would be about average.

I also know know of a guy who bred 2 50% het albinos a few years ago and got 5 eggs. All were albinos. But that was incredible luck hitting those odds.

I would expect at least 1 albino out of a clutch when breeding 2 100% hets.

The odds are 25% per egg. The cumulative odds of producing at least one albino go up with the number of eggs hatched from your het albino x het albino pair. The link below has a table showing the odds.
Het X Het Odds Per Clutch Size

Here is a great link for a website that will analyze up to four different traits and give you a complete breakdown of ptential offspring. Todd
