Adult Grey Banded KingSnake NOT EATING

nixsys Feb 25, 2007 09:41 PM

Hi,

I'm new to this forum but I need some reasurance from someone, I'm new to keeping Adult KingSnakes, I used to look after some young ones who all used to eat weekly. I recently bought an adult grey banded kingsnake what was unwanted from a local store, the store owner told me that he was eating about once a week on full grown mice. I've had him now just over a month and so far he's only eaten twice. The last time was just over two weeks ago. Since then I've tried feeding him twice with no luck. Now I'm not overly concerned yet as he seems healthy and very active in his new sorounding. I've been keeping his tank at around 78 - 85 degrees letting the temp drop slightly at night. He's housed in a larger tank around 5 feet, long enough that he can stretch right out and not touch either end, and I provided fresh water daily. The tank has a thick 1" deep layer of desert snow hard wood substrate, which for the last week he been borowing in like mad. Is it something I should worry about ?? or is this normal behaviour for an adult ??

Many thanks for any responses.

Mark

If your animal looks and acts healthy I would not worry that a couple of feedings were refused. It is not rare for GBKs to pass up a meal. Just keep trying but do not get yourself or your animal stressed out.

It would not hurt to try some change ups, maybe offer something smaller next time, or wash it, or scent it, or any of dozens of other ideas you can get from here.
