hibernation, maybe?

nevrmore Aug 11, 2003 04:51 PM

within the last couple of days our egyptian has become lethargic, and we're not sure if he's eating.
i had read that they enter a semi-hibernating state in dec. or jan., but it's far too early for this. or is it?
this is our first uro, so we're not really too familiar with their behavior patterns.
any help would be appreciated.

I know I can't really help you but mine has been doing the same thing, he started last week, he dug a hole underneath where his basking light is and did not come out until 4 days later! Then this week he dug his burrow again, but he sits with his head just peaking out, he has not eaten this week yet. So if you get any help please let me know!!

my girlfriend asked about it at the pet store in the locla mall after noticing that they had a mali.
while qualifications and credentials of a mall pet store clerk may be suspect, here's what she said:
we should be using a "tight light" that will project light on to only a smaller area of the tank.
also, she said we should be using an under-tank heating pad. i have heard mixed opinions about the necessity of them, and decided not to get one, but maybe now i will to see if it helps.

i also plan on switching to play sand or pool filter sand. he's in marine sand now, but it probably isn't as deep as he might like, and the stuff is expensive.
