LOL. This is my first hook up of the year. The hypo one is the male, and one that I hatched two years ago, and gave to a friend. Now he's come back home to do a little man snake work. The black, and white female is one that I just bought before brumation, but supposedly she had a huge clutch last year so I'm looking forward to it because they will be the first ones hatching this year.

I love how you can always count on Cal kings to breed readily.

I'm sorry they aren't ready yet for you. Last year they locked up within seconds, and stayed locked up for hours. I'm sure she'll get in the mood pretty soon. Have they both shed since being warmed up? I believe you told me, but I can't remember.

Nice! Glad to see you are having some good luck. I just gave my cal kings that were brumating their first meal today. MAN they were hungry! Hope mine lock up as easily as yours.

Cal kings were the first snakes I ever bred so I'll always have a soft spot for them. I didn't know what the heck I was doing, and her first clutch ended up in the water bowl (lesson learned). I tried to save some of the ones on top, but they quickly shriveled up in a couple days. The next year I bought a Hovabator, but put the eggs in Shangum (peat) moss. lol. Another lesson learned, but this time three out of the seven eggs hatched. Once I saw that first baby hatch out I was hooked. I love seeing little heads popping out of the egg, and trying to guess what the rest of their body looks like (we all do it). For the reptiles sake thank God Michelle Rogers stepped in, and helped me out. She taught me everything I know, but I'm sure not everything she knows. lol. I'm not planning on really getting into Cal kings, but I'll probably always have a pair, or two around. They're enjoyable snakes, and great to have around as you can see by the pic. lol.
Ken

(PS-Good luck on the hook up)
