adopted 7yr old LTC okeetee update

805Ringo Feb 26, 2007 05:35 PM

Hey Gang-
Thanks for the adivse too! Name for new adopted okeetee is "Seven" since approx. age= 7yrs.
The owner had never picked up Seven for the year he had it! I was so nervous catching Seven! Zipping around the hexagon aquarium beneath soil substrate tunnels. I had to break through. When I'd spot Seven, it would zip into a tunnel! I saw my hands shaking and I remembered everyone's advise. I slowed down, saw Seven then just gently grabed him. Squiggling I took a look at him and told him, "take it easy." As I looked at Seven, keeping the mouth away from my hands, it looked at my hands and slightly open his mouth. I told him to cut it out and he went back to trying to squiggle away. I'll get a picture as soon as I get my camera! Thanks again to all with the support. I'll let him settle in for a couple days until I get the first F/T prey item.

It will probably take a while to truly calm it down but be patient. It will tame.
When you hold it just make sure to let it crawl through your hands. Don't grasp it or restrain it.
Looking forward to pictures.

I try to just support Seven with my arms while my hands and fingers guide. I try to think of supporting water moving. Seven is just really quick! Cute too! Cant wait to post pictures! It felt like it just didn't know how to balance; having never been held. My sense tells me its a really nice snake.

Thanks for your advise- it echoed in my mind as Seven darted around the aquarium! I remember following your posts accounting Doug's adoption! I thought to myself- wow that was awesome how you had the opportunity to meet and take in this lil'soul- & you did it! Then I had thought how such cool things don't happen to me. And within a week of Doug settling in with you, someone approcahed me about Seven- it happen to me! LOL- Pretty "corny" huh!!!

Yeah, Doug is a sweetie - he just needed a little patience. Most Corn's are pretty tame - they just need a little time sometimes to get them used to people and make them feel like you are not going to eat them!

I am so happy that things are working out with "Seven." I'm sure after a week or two you will be very happy with him and he will be very happy with you. I am also sure he can't wait to eat!

Keep us up to date and I can't wait to see pictures.
