Hi,

I always keep the cocoons of silkies that were not eaten in caterpillar stage. In fact, they are what Cyrus is mainly getting right now. A head's up - female moths (all species) emerge from their cocoon with undeveloped eggs. If he eats one you will see all sorts of little white eggs in his next poop - don't go into a panic - they are not parasites or some weird egg. I have some great photos of a silkworm egg-laden poop. I have taken them off web, but will look and post fr you later. My vet was shocked until I told him what they were.

But yes, place them on the screen, branch, whatever and he will likely shoot right away. they cannot fly but will certain flutter (especially if you have a male and female in close proximity. A male moth will do amazing things to find his lady!

hey,
thanks alot for the reply..i'm really excited to see what he does when he sees the moth..i'm tring to think of where i should put it for him, since i thought they could fly,but guess not..i only have 1 silk worm moth right now,and 2 will soon be coming out of their cacoons too..the one that is in there now is a female and has already dropped eggs in the plastic cup..also by the way, hows cyrus doing these days,i remember he was having some problems, hopefully hes back to 100% again..

Hi Jonny,

they "stick" really well so you can place them on the screen, branch, anywhere in the open. They will flutter and your cham is sure to see - and eat - him.

Thanks for asking about Cyrus. He is not doing great. We do not know what is wrong but he's got something sticking out of his eye (as of last Friday). I have a whole update on him elsewhere - very long post, but some close-up pics at link below but here are the poop pics with the silkie eggs in it - just so you'll know what to NOT get freaked out about when you see his poop

nice, huh? lol!

hey lele, when i fed him the moth i just put it in his usual feeding cup for hand feeding if i don't use my hand..i made him work his tongue real good for it too..was amazed at how long his tongue is getting,he had to of atleast shot it out 7'',which was awesome.i could tell he loved the moth too..as for the picture, really gross..hahaha,but i did get a first hand look at it today!!looked just like the pic,but smaller since hes not a big guy yet like cyrus is..also,really sad to hear hes not doing too good..hes such a awesome looking guy..hopefully the vet can figure something out and get him fixed up..it must be real hard to know something is wrong but not know what the problem is..good luck!!
