I shut mine down on October 1, 2006 and they are still brumating, hopefully until mid March. It all depends upon the outside temps here at 5,000 ft in the high country of Arizona.

With only a seven month active period, do you ever get your females to double clutch?

Kerby... Feb 26, 2007 08:56 PM

I don't double-clutch my cal kings, but some of my bigger, older females will anyways. I never introduce a male after the first clutch anymore.

I like bringing them up out of brumation in March, breed them in April and have eggs laid in June/July with clutches hatching in Aug/Sep. This way when I get a few non-feeders I just brumate them....they do feed in March.
