Good looking snakes...

nothing like the old Davis Mtn Blair Phase...yep... I agree...

I am thinking that this may have been a poke at the earlier river road post...

If I am not mistaken???

Above post was meant to follow Steve's reply...

LBenton - Feel free to entertain with your conspiracy theory, if I remember right, I posted these pics to show off a new purchase...!?

I will just say they are not a typical Davis look, especially number 3. And after the whole River Road post below it just seemed like it may have been in jest.

No offense, but I still plan to get a good nights sleep either way.

Lance

jswanson737 Feb 27, 2007 04:14 PM

Man, you guys... I come in here to show you a trio of snakes I just picked up, pretty stoked about them, and BAM, it's not this, it's not that, everything's a conspiracy, I saw the post below, and have my own opinions about how seriously things are taken, but who am I?... maybe Kingsnake should rename the GBK forum to "Kingsnakes: Gray-Banded (Pro's Only)".
Good nights sleep? Hope so, I grew concerned...

Thanks for the advice on what they are or aren't, frankly I know I got a nice trio of Gray Bands regardless of where the parents were found, I'll just remember to post my other snakes elsewhere... Talk about buzzkill...

>>and have my own opinions about how seriously things are taken, but who am I?

So don't take it so seriously. Generic alterna in most cases are not any less valuable than locality alterna. Further very few locality alterna are expensive or more so than others.

So getting called out on a locality is a little like being called out for bad grammar. No big deal.

Now on the other hand if you are serious about alterna and keeping snakes you owe it to yourself and to the animals you keep to learn all about them. That includes how to identify the intricacies of each locality or region after having seen thousands of wild caught snakes.

I think you and Diego are related.

Forky

You

jswanson737 Feb 27, 2007 04:36 PM

I agree with a lot of what you just said, I like the snakes, but man, you guys in here are a bit too serious and jumpy for the likes of us common folk.

Nope, not related, irrelevant either way.

Come in here to show off a couple animals, and see where things end up?

Your trio is nice, they are to be proud of. And the RR in dispute is nice animal on it's own as well. But in both cases they are at the least not typical. I will admit two things

1 - my skeptic meter went up a bit trying to put the picture to the locality.

2 - and the big one, I honestly thought you were some "old timer" from this forum using another login to poke fun at somebody else that just had a fit.

So, in short I mistook you for a poser not a poster. Now that I know I missed the mark on #2 there I apologize, but my skepticism remains genuine on the locality data you were provided on these animals. We really are to help, but when opinions are provided try not to make any of it personally... You will be much happier that way, I promise.
A more typical Davis from the Gallery

jswanson737 Feb 27, 2007 05:21 PM

Sounds good, I honestly, sorry to say, don't care THAT much about breaking the localities down that far, I just went from what I was told...

Just rubbed me a little raw at how my post was taken, and after reading the other post, frankly got a little pissed.

But whatever, life goes on...

The nuances of these snakes are many and varied, I studied this forum and the alterna page for 2 years before I ventured in, I am still a novice hunter for these amazing animals and along the way was side swiped by all of the beauty that west Texas has to offer herpwise and even plantwise! All that said, if you would research the alterna page you could do your own research that THESE people have provided to YOU ON THIS FORUM so you could ask better questions about the snakes you buy. Hundreds of photos and exact locale data led me to being on my first trip with 4 alterna found along with a lepidus, hysiglena and a red coachwhip, Many other herps were found, shoot, even saw a porcupine and ringtails. These guys bend over backwards to help but draw the line or seriously question locality snakes that do not fit the mold. Take the advice, look into it yourself, don't be a $hit about it. In the nicest way!

spell it out, like (myname at internte dot com)

Just a little FYI if you want to keep that email clean.

If these were your first graybands, very good beginning here! My fave is the third one but all are very nice. One neat thing is that they all look different as well.
