TRYING TO BREED MY CAL KINGS

DelaneyColubrids Feb 27, 2007 12:26 PM

I have been putting my kings together for the past four days now and the first two days I witnessed them breed, but it didn't last that long maybe ten to fifteen second intervals on and off for like 45mins and then I put them back in there own cages. The last two days including today I put them together and all the male does is grab her with his mouth and try to breed but it doesn’t seem to work out for him the female is still lifting her tail for him but it seems like he forgot what to do he just rubs his tail around hers and nothing happens. I don’t know if anyone else has had this problem or not. Should I just keep trying or just leave them apart and see if the female becomes gravid. The picture is when I witnessed them breed. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We had the same problem last year and our male still hasn't figured it out yet! He still got her pregnant last year, so don't worry too much. Ours trys, fails, and gives up real fast. When he did mate though, it lasted for a long time, but my pueblans have short copulation so I wouldn't worry too much, just keep putting them together and it will happen.
