I got the ok

SPY2 Feb 27, 2007 01:42 PM

So, my wife read the hi message I wrote and decided its ok for me to use the spare bedroom for the chams only, still have alot of moving and re-araging befor its all done, but I was so excited when she told me...I was thinking about doing shelves going across the walls to support the cages, also anyone have any idea about a lighting set-up, I was thinking a shelve above the enclosures to support the lighting just a thought im open to ANY suggestions other than that.

One problem with lining walls with cages is that chams can easily see each other from across the typical room and they may spend a lot of stressy energy displaying to each other. You can easily block their view of cages next to each other with solid panels, but blocking the front causes obvious problems. Unless you plan cages along just one wall. I don't know how many cages you are planning, but if you clump the cages in the center of the room you can block the back or sides so their only view is out towards the walls or windows. Hang UV lights from mollies over the "clump", use a common mister or fogger branched into each, and provide a basking spot on top of each cage.

Planning on going along the back wall and side like a 90 degree...thanks for the reply.

Hey,

A good way I used to correct the problem of the chams seeing eachother is by streching a string from wall to wall several feet in front of the cages(or do it in the middle of the room if there is space) and then hang an opaque shower curtain from this. You will be able to open it if you need to , or close it so they cant see eachother. Be careful it isn't too close to the cage or it will block air flow.

For the lighting, just simply stretch a piece of coated electrical wire or string across the tops of the cages and then hang the dome lights down from these. The longer fixtures for the fluorescent bulbs can be done the same way, just make sure the wire or string is strong enough to hold them. Here;s a pic that may help ya out...

Thanks Adam, just wanted a size estimate.

ugh, that pic always bothers me cause the beams supporting the cages are slightly warped so they sagged to the middle until I fixed it. Here's a better pic, and it also shows(might be hard to see)white pvc tubing(cut in half) secured in front, right under each of the rows of cages. It works perfect for irrigation if you tilt the cages forward slightly.
