cat bp =?

iwish7284 Feb 27, 2007 11:59 PM

I'm a college student in an apartment. I recently bought a 4 month old kitten. I'm very concerned that my bp may escape from his cage. I know anything moving and hesitant like a mouse is potential prey for bp, are they attracted to the scent of a cat?

I have my bp in my bedroom and my cat is always free to roam where ever he wants however i never let my snake out in the same room was the cat. The bp is about 28" long and a little bigger than a half dollar wide with an empty stomach. I know he couldn't consume my cat but would it be possible for him to kill it?

another question is last time it urinated its urates were enclosed in what looked like a very yellow film or casing is this caused by any inadequate housing?

Thanks,
Nick

Also I bought some flea and tick spray for my cat. I read on here a while back that anti flea medicine may contain lethal chemicals to snakes, is that true?

I don't plan on spraing my cat with it in the same room as my bp. Will the bp still be at risk?

Your cat will be perfectly safe from the snake. If anything, the cat would kill the snake, not vice versa.
The urates were perfectly normal, white and yellow are good colors.

My cats are always more scared of my snakes than they are willing to attack, but my cats are wusses (my rat chases them, for heaven's sake) so just do your best to make sure your ball python's enclosure is escape proof.

Check the label of your flea spray and then google the active ingredients.
Also, the flea spray will probably not be particularly effective. Use Frontline or Advantage - they might be more expensive but that's because they work. If you don't have fleas to begin with and the cat is an indoor cat exclusively then you might be able to get away without treating it.

Hi! As any one that has had Ball Pythons for any length of time nose they are very picky eaters and will most often ether eat mice or rats and a few will eat both but as for things that are not there normal pray NO! they might strike out of self defense or more likely than not just ball up if approached or attacked by some other animal . But I would be more afraid that the cat would kill the Ball than the other way around . But if introduced slowly and under supervision there are exceptions . Good luck David of DS Reptile Rescue

Oh now that is just too cute.

I wouldn't trust any bp with any other animal, supervised or otherwise. There is no need for them to be together in the first place and it only takes a second for one to hurt the other. Also, think about fleas... they're a lot easier to get rid of on a cat than a snake. What is the purpose of mixing these animals? It's an unnecessary risk. Snakes in general don't really do the cuddly thing. Sure, it might turn out alright, but I wouldn't trust it, cause if it goes wrong for a second you'll really regret it. It's sorta like housing snakes together, you could probably get away with it, but it isn't very highly reccommended.

I do not plan to mix these animals. It was a "what if" question on if the snake escaped his cage. I have no plan of having them loose in the same room. and the flea medicine wasn't about using it on the snake.

There was a story of a guy who's vaccuum had a bunch of flea powder in it and as he used it it spread through the air in his snake room and many snakes got sick and died. I was wondering what ingredient did that.

Well lets see! First off I did not put them together , It was a chance meeting between two rescued animals . The cat stayed on my bed all the time and wile doing some spot cleaning the snake simply crowed over to the cat and they have been companions ever since . I have never put them together nor have I denied them access to each other they only get together when they wont it to happen witch is more often than not . But Thanks for your comments .
