feeding question

raisnok Feb 28, 2007 09:50 AM

i have had this boa for about a year now she, is around 5 or 6 years old.... that photo is an older one.... shes a bit bigger at the moment.

my question is what size prey should she be fed?( she was fed a small rabbit everyother month before i got her) i have been feeding a jumbo rat about every 14 days, but she has begun to refuse to eat

here is what i have noticed, she eats the jumbo rat, then refuses to eat again til she sheds and poops....... is this common with bigger boas?

i have a smaller female who eats every 10 days.

This sounds normal to me. This time of year some boas will quite eating altogether. In the wild some of your bigger anacondas only eat 2-3 times a year. Try not to force your boa to eat every 14 days, but let him regulate that. I don't feed unless they poop first.

ok thats what i have been doing, if she refuses then i wait, the last couple of times i have waited for her to poop, then waited a few days and she ate, she has averaged about feeding once to twice a month.
