Travel hooks

blindpig Feb 28, 2007 12:38 PM

Is there a decent travel hook on the market? Something of the capability of a Stump Ripper? I've wrecked every telescoping hook I've used in short order and have no use for them. As I'm traveling to Queensland this year I need a good stick and simply can't pack my stump ripper. The stevedore hook just wears my old back out and besides I don't think I want to be that up close and personal with a Death Adder! All suggestions appreciated.

Couple of suggestions:

1) Buy or borrow a hard sided golf bag case and use it as a suit case for your hook and whatever else will fit in there.

2) Contact the hotel or wherever you plan to stay and arrange to ship the hook on ahead of you. You could pack it in a large shipping tube.

Appreciate the suggestions but been there and done that. Got a capped piece of pvc that I normally use to transport my stump ripper. Luggage restriction rule that out, shipping is too expensive. I was hoping that some genius had come up with a 2 piece locking stick that could be used for lifting stuff.

Thanks much for the suggestions.

Sounds like a good project for someone with a machine shop. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult.

I have a 30" Stump Ripper for that very purpose. It is long enough for flipping and dealing with most snakes and it will fit in my large suitcase.

Check out Animal Capture Equipment (ace-cap.com). They make a very nice Stump Ripper alternative that is probably the best herp hook on the market for the price, IMHO.

Thanks much for that,I was not aware of that vendor. A short, good stick is an option, I can barely fit a 30"(over all) stick in my bag. Not so easy on the back but at least I can manipulate stuff.

Are you famaliar with the double vs single shaft option? I'm wondering if the double shaft merits the extra expense.

Thanks again.
