Any opinions as to how good they are?

they are amazing, especially fried with butter and garlic. Curry stir fry is great too. Butterworms make great 'wonton noodles'.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

For reptiles, they are a great insect feeder. They are high in calcium, protein and other nutrients. A little on the fatty side but not so much these can't be fed on a regular basis, especially with growing or breeding bearded dragons.

About the only thing that bothers me about butterworms, is the fact they are irradiated to prevent them from transforming into beetles. This is done to all butterworms as the beetles are considered a pest. Hence why we can't breed them ourselves. I just don't know if this irradiation process in any way changes the worms in such a way that could have long term negative effects on what eats them. There is no info on this out there that i have heard of and it is completely possible there is no harmful effects...I just am a bit concerned about it. Not so much that i don't use butterworms time and time again myself but it makes me wonder.

ok interesting. I didn't know that about the beetles. hmm. I wasn't planning on getting them but they were free this time so if Morwyn likes em, i'll continue to get them.
