Where to buy vents?

lepidus-klauberi Feb 28, 2007 08:28 PM

Have any of you seen any vents that can be bought on line? I currently use 4" round "Midget Louvers" for my caging and can't seem to find different kinds. One time I went to Home Depot and they had rectangular vents/grills, but like always happens I went back and they no longer carry them. Thanks.

I've gotten these vents from Lowes. They are called soffet vents. I have also gotten them online from Menards. Derek

Hey kingsnaken, did you build all of your cages yourself? I am looking for something just like that. How much did they cost you and do you have any plans at all? Thanks in advance!

Yes, I built them myself. They are very easy to build. They cost between 70-80 dollars each to build. Derek

Hello, look like nice cages there. Did you use malemine for the material? What did ya use for sealing the corners? just wondering. Thanks

Kingsnaken Mar 07, 2007 03:22 PM

Thanks. It is melamine. It isn't the real cheap stuff though. I went to Home Depot and got 16X36 inch pieces. The ends are cut in half. Top and bottom are each 1 piece, and if I remember correctly, I had to cut a little off the back. The back is inset. I used 3" soffet vents. I sealed it with kitchen and bath caulk, which I let offgas for weeks. Derek

I can't see the louvers/vents that well. Since I only have venomous, I was curious as to the spacing of the vent.

Hey John,

I'll take a closeup tomorrow because I worked very late tonight. The vent louvers are very close. Derek

What the heck! Here it is. Derek

John,

I have used soffit vents for vipers, even tree vipers that produce TINY babies that can pretty much get into anything.

I used to cut stainless mesh and attach it to the inside of the vent, using rivets and polyurethane caulk. I also attached screen to the back side of the cage as to have a double layer of screen.

In fact I did this with a variety of vents.

Derek and Chris...Thanks.

The reason I asked about spacing of grills was because I had a juvenile klauberi get her head caught between the grills. I did have a secondary "vent box" mounted to the back of the cage. Fortunately, I was able to use 24" hemostats to pry the grill open so she could get her head out. I now use the Midget louvers which are so small it's impossible for that to happen again. But, they are hard to find and was looking for a secondary source.

Thanks.

This may be a dumb question but why can't you buy them from Midget Louver themselves?

The only other option would be to place screen over louvers you can by locally. Although I think the Midget louver product is prety nice myself and will probally look into getting some Not that I keep Hots but the wife hates picking up dead crickets around the house. LOL
