Scale problem? Disease? I dunno!

JohnnyBoy Feb 28, 2007 10:09 PM

I noticed when I first bought my Kingsnake 4 months ago that he had a couple small patches of scales that were small bumpy and dull. Everything's been fine until this last shed, he took a few days longer to shed and had problem getting it all off so I let him soak for an hour and the rest slid right off with no problems. So the next day I noticed several blotches of these dull bumpy scales, some patches being maybe a few millimeters wide by an inch or so long! What causes this? Is it something that'll heal or will it continue to get worse? Is it some sort of disease? Is my snakey gonna die? haha..seriously though, I'm worried

It reminds me of something that one of my dumerils boas once had. Not exactly the same but close. It turned out to be fungal with mine.

You should take your snake to a vet asap, that looks funky to me.

I've seen ball python's with that sort of thing going on, in slightly smaller amounts. I thought it could be humidity or even too high of heat, butI'm not sure and they were'nt my ball pythons and when I asked the guy said they've always been that way.

Reminds me of when one of my royal pythons rubbed his head against the top of his viv, leaving his scales very rough looking. If it is something similar they should heal over time, as long as the snake sheds ok, but to be sure its not fungal or something else Id get it to the vet just incase.

I had that happen to a couple snakes here and there over the years.

Never knew what it was.

I always figured the snake(s) had a problem shedding that time around, and the scales died(?) causing the discoloration. Never really caused a problem to any of the snakes, though.
