How long...

phiber_optikx Feb 28, 2007 11:01 PM

How long do males need to be out of brumation before they can breed? I had pulled my female black rat out of brumation due to health issues about 3 weeks ago (she is better) and she is now blue. I pulled my male out tonight when I noticed it. How long does he need to "prep"? Also, how long is the breeding window for females once they shed?

There are several options.
once the female sheds you can put the male in with her.
You can simply leave them together for the next month or so.
You can leave them together until you know that they do hook up, which could be five minutes or five days.
you can just put them together for a few days. separate them for a few days. put them together for a few days, separate them for a few days, repeat this until you see signs the female is gravid.
