Please don't take the responses of the members here in offense.
The elite society of Alterna Enthusiasts make up many people whos' combined experience makes for a resume longer than our nation has been recognized as a nation.

I think we all just want to make sure that everyone is well informed and knows the truth about the animals he or she purchased. I 'think' we all understand that not everyone goes to great lengths to define locality or the background.

The knowledge here represented by these members will greatly save you time when you have questions or problems and is much greater than anything listed in most books. The time saved alone from research is worth posting.

Last...the folks here take much pride in Alterna. A lot of us live in Texas and some in Alterna Country. They understand the animals, color morphs, variations, weather patterns, hunting techniques, etc...

So in closing please give these people a chance. They are good people. We tend to be elitists... but hey, who doesn't these days. I just enjoy the animals and the area they come from myself. I don't think any other snake in the world represents the mystique that is ALTERNA.

Best Wishes and thanks to all those who have paved the way for our Alterna Obsession!

is the definition of a locality greyband. Many people who go to a herp show and buy a River Road or Davis Mtn greyband do not understand "greyband locality". You compare it to a locality Suriname redtail boa, or wamena GTP and the defintion of locality is different.

I doubt they understand that most Local alterna on this page can be traced back to the Time, Date, Weather pattern, and within a few feet of where they/founders were caught. People on this board appreciate generic, but for the MOST part if it can not be traced with ABSOLUTE certanity then it is considered a generic. Word of mouth does not count in greyband culture.

People who do not understand this culture, think we are being rude, but this culture started this site. I never posted back in the mid 90's but I miss alterna.com.

do you know that spend years looking on one cut to pair up an animal?
About as close as I see to this level of obsession is the rosy boa crowd. And they are only close, we can be much much worse...

Not to mention the miles driven, the fruitless nights, and the money blown on the next generation of lights! I am a relative newbie without a "notch" yet, but I still marvel at the info given on this site, it is tops, bar none. And the stories..... and the guessing game!
