Exo-terra mesh cages

Jeff B Mar 01, 2007 12:34 PM

So I've wanted an amazon tree boa for years now, and the pet store I work at is finally going to be getting some captive bred babies. I've got a chance to buy a used mesh cage. I know it'll be big enough, and am reasonably sure that the room I'll be keeping it in will keep conditions nice. It usually hits the mid-eighties by day and gets down to maybe the high sixties at night. I've got a number of tropical frog enclosures and a 29-gallon fishtank that has no top, so it's fairly humid, without being stifling.

Any thoughts or concerns?

Toughest part of using mesh caging (aka chameleon caging) with Tree Boas is keeping the humidity right. Realisitically speaking, you only need to hit a day time high for about 75-80% and it can go down to the 60's and you shouldn't have any shed problems. Amazons are pretty hearty though and if you have a reptile room with the levels around 80 degree and 80% humidity you should do fine. Now you just have to get used to getting attacked by the little guy and you'll be a Corallus entheusist in no time!
