Finally....CHILDRENS EGGS!

midnightherps Mar 01, 2007 01:13 PM

I was really hoping this girl wouldve double clutched for me but she missed the mark. This morning I got 11 potentialy vialble eggs and two infertile. Last year I got 10 potentialy vialble and one infertile. But only 9 of the 10 hatched last year. Hopefully I get the two extra this year.

Whats fun about this project is the obvious difference in color of the babies. Each parent passes on their genetics to half the babies. This is the second year Ill produce these. Lets see if I get half dark and half light again.

Expected to hatch April 14.

HAPPY BREEDING EVERYONE!

congrats, that is a neat project you have going on. Good luck with them. Do you have any updated pics of the lighter colored ones from last year?

And put me on the list...seriously.

Congratulations Brendan! Those are drop dead gorgeous parents. I have a spotted python that I believe is ready to lay her eggs for me. It's the first year for my spotteds and my female looks like she's going to shed soon. Do they shed prior to egg laying? If so, about how long from shed to eggs on average?

Thanks

I am pretty sure it is about 3-4 weeks. I have a gravid stimsons who, according to those numbers, is due in the next week. Sure is exciting, isn't it?

In my experience [she] lays her eggs three weeks after her postov shed. Its also realy easy to think that they are swelling and getting ready to lay but Ive come to realize that Ive been wrong a number of times. Maybe its my mind playing tricks on me from the excitment. Every time the female sheds its like I want to believe shes going to drop soon so bad that it seems as though shes swelling but then over time I realized that if youre not sure then theres a good chance shes not ready to drop. If your female is really going to lay eggs I guarentee it will be obvious about a week to a week 1/2 before she dropps. Shell become so swollen that youll see spreading between the scales and ripples down the lower half of the body. Plus shell likely start laying inverted. If a female isnt any more swollen 4 weeks after a shed then she was at the time of the shed then I wouldnt bet on it.

Good luck with your spotteds. I never used to be a big fan of spotteds but my buddies of Australian Addiction just got some pure breed Cape Yorks and they are beautiful. Im interested now!

Thanks for the info Brendan. Yeah, last year I thought she was gravid but turned out she laid no eggs. So I musy have mistaken her swelling during ovulation as heavy with eggs I did see the male breed with her this year so I'm really, really hoping all went well. Plus, they've been together since Oct/Nov so he's had plenty of time! She's going to shed within a week so I'll watch her closely for several weeks after that. I guess time will tell.

They are neat little pythons!

Have a good day
