One more question

judmichaels Mar 01, 2007 06:15 PM

I just got a male shipped to me 2 weeks ago. He will not eat. he is 2 years old. I tried hoppers, and even splitbrained pinks. Still won't eat. I have left him in a small enclosure with the mice for 3 hours. Still nothing. Temps are good in his enclosure.
I need to know where to buy some toads in the middle of winter lol
thanks

First- has he ever eaten toads? If not, why would you start now? That would be a bad move.

Second - Why are you worrying so much after just 2 weeks? Give him time to settle in. Monitor his weight, and if it remains pretty steady with minimal loss, then just give him time. If you have already tried feeding him several times in the two weeks, then he is probably a stressed snake.

Third_ have you gotten a fecal done by a vet. Always good to get new snakes checked out, as parasites are quite common in hoggies, and can be the cause of fasting.

I bought a breeding trio last year. The male ate like a champ, the females went on a 4 month fast. No big, just the nature of the breed. You just need to monitor them during this time.

Also, many animals are still in a hibernation mode and might not eat as often.
