Off Topic...but thought I could share...

...well there's been a death in the family...Clubber...the rat I just bought on Saturday has died from lice. I was really starting to form a bond with the guy too. He was grooming my fingers...a high compliment for an owner. He was also starting to have a lot of fun on my shoulders and sniffing out my ear. I didn't even have him for a week and he was beginning to have a huge impact on my life. It's so irritating that he wasn't even 5 weeks old and had to go so soon. Though I'd share because you guys are my second family, in a way, considering I talk to all you guys about Rocky and all...

Scott,
..I think Mike said it very well. "it sucks to lose a pet". Some people will say it was just a rat but a whole bunch of people would say "it was just a snake" when we lose one. All of our pets are special to us.

Many people have said, "Oh it doesn't matter because you only paid $1.89 for him." just like you said. I got pretty defensive when my friends said that.

Sorry to hear that Scott. After you pay your respects to Clubber, I think you should try and fine another rat to your liking cuz you seemed so happy and excited about the new addition. Life was unfortunately short for Clubber but that was the most exciting days of his life I assure you and that's the memories you carry with you. Sorry again Scott and take care.

Hey Scott, I missed this thread originally, only noticed it from your other post above. Sorry to hear that, it does suck to lose a pet. So what if it's "just a rat". It's still your "just a rat"

I've lost many pets over the years, The longer ytou have them and the more personable they are the harder it is. In the last couple of years I've lost:

Gizmo, a 17 year old cat (that hit the hardest)

Elvira, a 17 year old boa I raised from a hatchling. All the kids schoolmates knew her from the presentations and I still get questions on her when I'm around the school.

A het coral albino female boa I purchased as an adult - she was being bred and I think she may have already been gravid.

Each one sucked in it's own way. That is part of having pets. If you're going to have them, you will (in most cases) outlive them.

Lice? make certain they're all gone before you bring in another rodent as a pet.

I am well aware of making sure the parasites are gone before I adopt a pair of females.

It's so odd that I, a guy whose killed rats and mice before, have gotten into keeping rats ad pets!
