NEWBIE--self-freeze mice

marioricardo May 21, 2003 10:04 AM

Well, I'm a total newbie in this deal. I have had my albino corn for about 2 weeks at most. I have already fed it a pre-killed small mouse (a fuzzy as you call them?), which I almost could not kill (can't stand hurting an animal, but it's either the mouse or snake). Now, at $2 per mouse, it's quite expensive. So I'm thinking of raising my own mice, which raises the question: Can I freeze my own mice? I mean, do I have to do a long cleaning process and what not, or can I just kill the mouse and place in the freezer?

Thanks all for your help.... One more thing, my corn is about 3ft., so that's about 1 mouse every 5-8 days, right? Also, I live in Puerto Rico, so the temperature is pretty constant ranging from 75F-95F at an averaged low-high (including temp during day and night, summer and "winter". I don't have to create a temp gradient right? I mean, I don't think I have to buy an air conditioner for the snake or anything, just water?

Again....THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE..(if u have any tips, just tell).

Yes you could raise your own, kill and freeze them. But heres 2 good reasons not to.

1. Mice STINK when you have more than a few. The smell will permeate everywhere.

2. If Killing them is not your cup of tea there is always places like rodentpro.com. I use them for all of my food item needs and have never had anything but great service. Believe me the cost is not that bad, even with shipping costs. And it sure beats the hell out of dealing with housing, feeding, watering, breeding, killing, and then freezing your own mice.

But, can I feed them the not frozen mice then? Is that a problem(will it still live a healthy life)?
