female behavior questions...

dmlove Aug 11, 2003 08:55 PM

i have a female, who recently brumated, and again, i tried breeding them, but then she did the same thing as before brumation...kind of confusing..she slow head bobbs, and then arm waves, but then runs away from my male, and swims when he is on top of her, meaning she doesnt want to. We have been trying to do this for a while, im kind of confused, she just seems so difficult! lol...i know, i cant do anything to help, but can anyone tell me anything to do, or whats going on? I have the female in the males cage, and will keep a close watch on her for a week or two, but if any mating goes on, i will probably miss it, but i doubt she will mate with him. She is SO submissive to EVERYTHING, even my smaller female!! i feel kinda bad for her, always running away from everything. She is eating lots and lots, and basking normally otherwise. Tell me what you think!!

oh ps, she is about 1 1/2 years

If she is eating lots and lots maybe she is gravid. I would also not keep her caged with him. I would have her in her own cage and only get to be with the male for up to a 24 hour period at a time. Usually I dont even do that, I will just do a couple hours or after the morning feeding into the afternoon...........mix it up a little. Maybe its the male that is not aggressive enough. I would definately keep her by herself though, cause if she is gravid being with the male could stress her out a bit(even if she wasnt gravid he could..........but im just saying). Chris
