What could this problem be?

skyfire_1 Mar 02, 2007 01:04 PM

I have an adult Corn Snake, and he has not eaten for four weeks now. He is also going into his water dish and soaking which he never used to do. Sounded like Mites to me, but I didn't see any in the cage or on the Corn. I did spray him with a little Reptile Relief just in case a couple of weeks ago, and again last week. I have white paper toweling in the bottom of his cage so I can see any mites easily, but have not seen any yet. Because he's now trying to get soaked in the water I am giving him new paper towels twice a day. Any idea what else could cause this behavior, Not eating, and soaking in water?

What sex is your snake?

Are there any other signs of illness?

This time of year a male corn's thoughts often turn too love - or at least sex. Males commonly go off-feed during mating season - this time of year. The soaking may indicate that he's fixing to shed, or perhaps his enclosure is too dry.

Good Luck,

John D

Well it sounds like you chaecked pretty good anf it's not mites.. So, then i would check the temp in the enclosure.. If it is too hot some snakes will retreat to the water to attempt to cool off.

Or it could also nothing.. i have some that sit in the water at times for no reason at all. What i do is just replace the water dish with a smaller one that the snake can't fit into for a week or so.. and it's usually "cured"..
