Kids and snakes

boredfoot Mar 02, 2007 02:29 PM

I just had a chance today to show my snakes to three classes of elementary kids. It was the most enjoyable time I've had yet in this hobby. The kids loved talking about snakes and then getting a chance to touch them. Funny that many of the preconceived notions about snakes (they're slimy, they all have poison, they want to get in your bed at night) are already in place at an early age, but most of the kids were just very excited to see something so different.

I think the teachers were just as curious as the kids were...

If you haven't had a chance to share your snakes with a group of kids, take the chance and do it sometime. You'll come away knowing exactly why you're a herp lover.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

That's a great photo, and a nice looking blood! My kids love snakes, too. My blood is still pocket sized.

If the date on your photo is accurate, would that make the little guy about driving age by now?

Thanks for sharing.

I do demos for groups of all ages at least twice a month. I absolutely love it and it's always a different experience each time. The kids do seem to have it in their heads that snakes are bad from an early age but usually with a minute or two with a calm snake in their midst their curiosity takes over and the just have to touch it.
