Red Tail Problems

Athos_76 Mar 02, 2007 07:55 PM

Hey all. I recently moved my 3 snakes into my new house, and a couple weeks ago, my red tail stopped eating. Shes been a fantastic eater in the past, well I took her out. She looked like she was losing weight, and had loose skin from the loss.

I had to leave town for a little over a week, and when I came back yesterday, she is laying on her side, and kind of lethargic. My vet is out of town till tuesday, so I have an early morning appt with him, then.

Any ideas from the forum on what it could be? She had a slight resp. infection two months ago from cold temps in the office she was kept in. (I had her at work, and someone kept unplugging the powerstrip at night)

Was she given any medications for the respiratory infection a couple of months ago?

mmm, I know this is from left field, but is there a chance she's gravid? Here's my thinking...
Upturned on the side, is prego behavior, which may also explain the decreased appetite. The lack of preconditioning, aka resp infection explains here poor body condition now, as the babies use a lot of energy.

A long shot, but it's what first came to mind.

Furthermore, the same old advice... a new house, double check all husbandry perameters, troubleshoot what could be a cause for this... How'd the vet visit go today?

Well, she is a he...
He's gonna be on Baytril for 2 weeks, and see how it goes. Temps and conditions in the cage are perfect, its just a stubborn case. He actually lost 6 lbs in the past few months, but when the infection clears I hope he'll be hungry again
