FRP what kind of adhesive

monitorchow Mar 02, 2007 08:47 PM

I want to use FRP as a liner for my enclosure and Im not sure what to use as an adhesive. If Im framing it with 2X4s does anyone see a problem with using nothing and relying on the screws holding the rest of it together. The only adhesive that comes to mind is liquid nails or something similar which is pretty nasty stuff. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've used liquid nails many times with FRP and it has worked just fine. My oldest cage is at least ten years old and it has held up.

I use Bulldog Grip. Then silicone the corners after it's all in.

I didn't realize it would work.

They sell both water base and solvent base. You can pick what suits your needs. Just ask the associate at the store. Cheers

If you want to, you can mechanically fasten it with screws, and caulk the edges and corners with polyurethane caulking. That's the toughest and most adhesive caulk out there.

They also make an adhesive specifically for FRP, Lowe's carries it in their paint department usually.

Heres a deal, the FRP is waterproof, when installing waterproofing(which is what your doing) You do not want to make holes in it. Using screws/nails etc, is to make holes in it. And Yes, screws and such loosen over time.

I used the solvent based glue(which appears to be liquid nails in a can) and sealed it with silicone. No problems over many years. Cheers

I used liquid nails. I did the first piece and while it smelled really bad the fumes did go away. ill post pics when this thing is complete. Thanks for the info.
