Colors?

lucille Mar 03, 2007 05:20 AM

I looked at a number of pictures of different kinds of chameleons; some are colorful and some not. Do chams who originate from a similar local have similar colors, or what separates the colorful ones from the ono colorful ones, why do they have those colors?

Some of the pics may have shown chams in full display for effect and some may not have. Most species don't have that many "color morphs" or locales, or we simply don't see enough individuals of those species to know for sure. Species that have a large natural range that crosses a variety of vegetation and climate types like panthers are more likely to vary as local populations adapt (what works best in some parts of Madagascar may stand out like a sore thumb 50 miles away in a rainshadowed forest area). Most species have not been captive bred and had their color manipulated as much as veileds and panthers have. I suspect that many of the quieter colored veileds are results of inbreeding and less than perfect nutrition and care.
