Help. I have ???? about Sony Mavica mvc fd88

repzoo44 Aug 11, 2003 10:04 PM

Hey, I just got a Sony mvc fd88. Only problem is that it didnt come with the owners manual. I have fiddled around with it and figured out the basics but I have some questions. I cant seem to get the pics to come out right. There is too much light on the subject and the eyes look really bright. Any suggestions? What size do I need to shoot in. It gives me three choices; 1280x960, 1024x768,and 640x480. I just want to put some pics of my animals on here. Also, what exposure setting do I need. I dont even know what EV means. I could ask a million questions as I dont know squat about dig. cameras but ill stop for now. I basically jsut need to know the basics of this cameras functions. Im going to get in touch with sony and see if I can get a manual but in the meantime I thought id try you guys. Thanks for your help. EP

I have a sony Mavica CD1000 and had the same problems with the light issue of having the subject being to bright and the eyes looking red, etc... I have been playing with different light sources and NOT using the flash from the camers and have had GREAT success. I will post some pics of my Ball Pythons that I took with the lighting as I described. It's a deak lamp with the adjustable arm with a piece of tissue paper in front of the bulb to diffuse the light a bit.
Good luck!

I have found the "built-in" flashes of most cameras to be pretty poor. I recommend buying the external flash, if Sony makes one. I purchased the HSD 3600 external flash for my Dimage 5, and I am very impressed with the results, especially with bounce flash.

I have the same camera, the flash is useless, I have never used it. The camara works best outdoors in natural light, or in brightly lit animal cages. I usually use the highest settings for quality and picture size because sometimes I print the photos. The downside is you will only get about 4 pics per disk that way, instead of about 50.

Great picture! Do you have the EXIF information on the picture?

No, I have an old model of the camera, it doesn't record any of the information. I used macro mode with no flash, but other than that everything was done automatically.
