new gecko, pictures, and a few questions..

fcwegnm0 Aug 11, 2003 10:17 PM

Got my second gecko about a week ago... he's a looker.

He's a two year old proven breeder Tremper albino male.. I paid $50 US for him... did I make out?

This is his girlfriend.... anyone think she's a high yellow? She's all yellow with black spots... no bands of purple.

Anyone want to guess what their offspring will look like? Of course they'll be het for albino. I hope to keep one of them and breed her back to the male so I can produce albinos....

Unfortunatly they don't seem to interested in each other.. I plan on keeping them together for 5 days to a week.. he'll be housed separatly after that.. I don't want to hear anything about quarantine (spelling?)... I trust the guy I brought him from.

trusting the person you buy from doesnt mean anything. even the most reputable breeders can have sick geckos. any way, those geckos will probably produce normal/high yellows, that like you said, will be het for albino. the female is definatly a high yellow, and $50 is a good price for the male.

a leo from a large, well known breeder, whom I'd purchased from before, but this time I bought Typhoid Mary. She had destroyed my whole collection! Thousands of dollars down the drain. I will never go back to them for any reason. You can never be too careful.
To answer your other questions... True, they will be het and hets tend to have more spotting than either parent (although in the case of SH's, that is not true). When you breed them, you may well get an albino baby. Normals can give you surprises sometimes.
Good luck!

It doesn't matter how much you trust the breeder especially since he is probably not the only one who has handled them. If any of his geckos have been to shows they have probably been handled or at least in close proximity (sp?) to people who have touched other reptiles and many viruses are airborne. His whole colony could be infected and he might not realize it for months. More than once a reputable breeders entire colony has been wiped out even though the breeder himself did nothing wrong. $50 is only a fair price if he doesn't kill both your geckos. Sorry for the rant I just needed to say that.
