HELP with eggs.

JJay Aug 11, 2003 10:33 PM

Well, this is my second due date that I think I lost eggs. I am incubating at 82 deg. Eggs were laid 6/15 so I expected them to hatch any day now. I just looked in the incubator and the two eggs have deflated. They were large and hard on Saturday when I checked last. As I have never actually had any hatch before, I don't know if the deflation is normal just before hatching or did I just loose two more eggs.

Please reply if you have first hand knowledge hatching eggs. Have you seen this before?

The deflation is normal. There should be a slit in the egg which the gecko usually has it's snout stickin out slightly to get air. Every few seconds you should see the egg "pulsate" when the gecko inhales and exhales. There should also be some form of movement as the gecko tries to get out of the egg. If there is no movement for a long period of time (1 day or longer) then most likely the leo died. Be patient, it took one of my lil hatchlings 3 hours to get out of it's egg. Hope this helps! and good luck!

Thank you. I didn't look long, I just opened the deli cup and took a short peek, saw it deflated and closed the cup back up and posted the message. I'll go back to see if the egg moves and if I can see the snout.

Thanks for the heads up!!!!!

JJay

P.S. This is exciting!!!!!!!

Not good. I went back and checked the eggs that had deflated. It had no nose sticking out and no slits on the side or end of the egg. There was no movement either. The egg was dead.

I am now 0 for 4. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The first two I lost I think is because the eggs were handled too much (my boys wanted to candle the egg all the time. I allowed it once a week but I think this moved the eggs around too much.

These two, I don't know. I never candled them and never messed with them??????

Anyone else have a bad start to hatching like this?

JJay

P.S. still have one in the incubator that is due this week. It's still large and white (not turning yellow or grey).

Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!!
