Hatch rite?

reptileszz Mar 04, 2007 08:49 AM

Hi, has anyone used this as an egg LAYING medium? Not sure what is in it. If it would be at all harmful for snakes to hang out in for long periods in their cage?

Thanks for any advice. I only ask as I got a bunch of it last year for free and want to use it.

Thanks again,
Carole

I have never used it, but a friend of mine used it with her leopard geckos, bearded dragons. In my opinion, it is not worth the cost. You could buy what it is made out of for a fraction of the cost. It looked to be mainly perilite, vermiculite that was pre moistened. My friend still managed to lose half her clutch (so it is not the miracle hatching medium that it claims to be). She said she had the eggs at the right temps, but who knows. I just don't think it is worth the $$$. That stuff is expensive for a little tiny bag.

I wouldnt buy it either. But I wound up with like 6 bags of the stuff at Daytona last year from a variety of sources. My question is, do you think I can use it in the lay boxes themselves? I assume since it is non-toxic for eggs and for babies to be on that it is ok in the tank with the adults for a month or more?

Thanks,
Carole
