Rack cleaning for dwarves Q...

johnavilla Mar 04, 2007 11:29 AM

OK, so I am only 5'5" which means that I have really short arms. Too short in fact to reach the back of my racks. What I've been doing is using a pair of feeding tongs to grip a wad of paper towel soaked in vinegar and scrub the depths but it is kind of a pain and not too sturdy. Any one have any suggestions?

Well I am only 4'11 myself..so I feel you when you can't reach the backs of some cages/racks. I can't even manage some of them even with my step stool, this is for cages that are high and depth such as 4 ft - 6 ft ones here. Racks here have pullout tubs..so its simple and easy for myself to clean them since they can be pulled out.

I thjnk it times for you all to invest in vision racks, I have the CV-70 ball rack and it allows you to pull the draws out so cleaning is easy , I will be buying four more.

Hey!!! I resemble that remark - LOL.

I would actually just use the vacuum extension and sweep out our racks and then once a month hubby would take the backs off and I'd give them a good wipe down. I tried an assortment of mops brooms and sponges but nothing else quite worked right.

This isn't such an issue with the new Vision racks - but I'd like to know how everyone goes about dusting their Visions. Getting around all those little crevices is a pain in the butt!!

...5'5" is not that short.........get over it.......I am 5'6" and I am taller than my brothers and mother, father, sister, etc etc.......brother in law is 6'4 and wishes he was smaller.....go figure.......

.....take out tubs and clean them that way...half in sink then flip it and clean other half....

as for rack itself...you don't have to clean them that much/often......

if you want to......tongs and a towel......
18 tweezers and a towel?.....
toilet cleaning brush/pad/etc?
maybe even a car washing wand?......hooked to the hose is going to make a mess......trust me.....LOL.....

........I really don't know if people actually clean the back of the inside of the racks .......and don't screw up the heat tapes if you do........

A CB 70 rack must be a real pain!! LOL I wish I could offer some great method for cleaning those, but I think Tosha has the best idea. I built my racks so the tubs have their lids on. That way I just have to wash the lids.

Good Luck

actually the cv-70 is not a pain at all its very versatile since everything is pretty much open , best on the market.

seems most of you don't clean the inside of the rack itself? You guys aren't worried about dirt and bacteria building up? I only clean my racks once a month (the tubs get it every two weeks with spot cleanings done as needed) and I notice a lot of dirt builds up in that time. Not jumping on anyone here, just wondering what opinions are on this.

I definitely worry about the cleaning, that's why I use the tub with the lids on. That way you don't get moisture on the top of the rack shelf, but only in the tub. The lids are easy to clean.
