female gecko attacking others. Help!

cherisse Mar 04, 2007 05:27 PM

I purchased a large cage for two female geckos. They are 1yr and the other is 1yr 2months old. They were living in seperate cages before. When I introduced them in their new cage pickles my albino became very agressive towards buttons. She followed her for a minute or two then leaped and attemted to bite her tale! I broke up the fight before any one got hurt but now I'm confused. I thought females were suppose to get along with out any problems? Has any one exsperienced this type of behavior out of two females before? What should I do?

All help on this matter is always greatly appriciated, Thanks!

i have experienced the same thing with my blazing blizzard female. i already had a 80gram male and a 60 gram female in my community 40 breeder. after quarentine i put my blizzard witch was about 35-40 gram in with the other two. she was crazy, tail swatting and nipping at both of them. at first i freaked, then i realized she wasn't truly out for blood and figured because she's smaller she will soon enough get put in her place.my advice is have three hides not counting humid hide. put them together watch them closely for an hour and nerves should began to settle. my first two stayed away from the crazy blizzard in different hides for a few days. around the third day the were all together cuddled up in the same hide. she just had to adjust and realize she wasn't in any danger. good luck and let me know how it goes.

That is why they are not to be housed together. No herp is really honestly to be housed with another. Very stressful on the animal and so on.

Sometimes they just like being alone and will not allow another leo in with them, sometimes it could be because one is considered a "hot" female. It could be a number of things. But it seems to me like i would just keep them seperate and that's that. I have 7 leos and soon to have many more. I have ALL of them in seperate tanks! Just healthier for the leo and less stressful.
