consistency question

sean1976 Mar 04, 2007 06:34 PM

I know Thayeri are very variable in appearance and I like almost all of the variations but what I like the most is the red and orange MS phases.

What I'd like to know is how consistently can you produce them?

I am curious both because I would like to find a couple of sources for them since I'll prolly start off purchasing a trio of unrelated red and orange MS phases and because I'd like to know how likely(roughly) a pairing of these is to throw red orange MS phase offspring versus the various other colors and patterns in a single clutch.

Thanks in advance for any information.

No better way to consistently produce orange milksnake phase than to work with a trio of them. I would say the majority of your offspring would be just that, with a few surprises to keep things interesting.

I'll take a stab at this since the MSP (milk snake phase) are my favorites too. If you breed MSP to MSP they will have 80-90% MSP's in my experience. If you breed leonis to leonis they will have mostly leonis. The intensity or saturation of the colors will be good if the parents have good saturation or have the right genetics to produce saturated colors.

Here's a few of mine. The one in the top pic probably has the best saturation of colors any of mine ever produced.

.. snakes you have there. I really love the saturation of colors. Even though I prefer the orange I have to say that red and yellow one is extremely nice.

Given what you just told me raises another question. What seems to throw the melanistic phase most often and how frequently do they pop up? After MSP they would be the other phase I would be most interested in. Although most likely not to breed for unless they are somehow more impressive of black kingsnakes then the mexican black kingsnakes are.

I'm not a huge MSP fan, but I do like the orange ones. This is a pic of one I produced this past year. Unfortunately he never voluntarily ate, and didn't make it. I'm putting the same parents together this year, and hopefully they'll throw another one just like him.
