We certainly have! The amount of pain is directly related to the size of the cham. :D It mostly isn't all that bad but someone here posted a picture once of his finger after a cham mauled it. From the look of the finger it must have been a pretty big chameleon. Don't worry about it, chams are a lot of bluster, just move slowly and gently.

my cham bit me by accident. i was hand feeding her a slice of banana, and i was trying to get the pieces of banana off her lips, and she bit me. it was more shocking than painful. chams might bite on purpose, thats when you need to watch out. aggressive chams are pretty common. they just want to eat their food, poop, bask, and take their time. then sleep. would you like some huge creature reaching into your hose while your on the pot, watchin tv, or eating toaster struedel? no, i know i wouldnt.

which brings me to tell you that toaster struedel is really good. there should be a forum. it will be the first food forum. wow, i even scare myself.

Dumbkid your bloody crazy lmao, got any recipes lol......

i have one recipe, and i just tried it with my cham.

i call it "glop"
to start, you'll need a blender, gerber baby applesauce, a mango, bananas, baby carrots, nectarines, pears, and some strawberries.

wash all fruits before making the glop. remember to take all the stickers off the fruits.

throw in 1 strawberry, half a banana (peeled), 1/2 nectarine (take pit out), the entire jar of gerber food, 1/4 of a mango, 2 baby carrots (diced), 1/2 a pear, and grind. be sure to keep glop chunky.

serve in spoonfuls. smear small amount on mouth of chameleon to stimulate eating. if you have any left over, which you probably will, chow down!

theres my recipe, my cham liked it, and i ate some too. tastes great!

Whether or not a chameleon will bite you also depends on the species. Some species are a lot more apt to biting you than others. Veiled chameleons seem quite willing to bite when they feel threatened in any way, especially males, whereas Jackson's chameleons are very timid and will just try to get away from you.

There's the defensive strike, an open mouthed head lunge. They seem to use this on each other when fighting. It's their first form of defensive(or offensive) bite. I've been "hit" by my big male veild quite a few times, and they put their entire body into it. It'll knock your hand away, let alone another chameleon. Occationally, they'll snap when they do this, and bite down a bit. Stings, but they just snap, bite the release. No ahrm done usually.

When they bite, I mean really bite, it's a different story altogether. My deremensis when he was a baby, only 5-6 months old, bit me hard, and drew blood--on my hand. Not my finger, my hand. I have NOT been bitten(thank God) by my current veild. I've seen him crunch a nearly full grown hissing roach with no problem. He's about 50% bigger than my last veild, and he left a deep Double V shaped mark in my arm that lasted for weeks. My other veild(the same day, coincedently) was climbing on my shoulder when he got spooked, and bit my head. The back of my head, through my hair. And drew blood.
I know a guy who's thumb nail was split. A breeder I met at a recent show had the tip of his thumb bitten off(not the bone or the nail) by a veild.
Considering the crunchy insects they can eat, and the fact that they chew their food, I'd be careful-- I think they have the strongest jaws(for their size)of lizards.

Yes, I have, and quite a few times actually. The first time was when i put my face close to his. He didnt like this and then he snapped and bit my nose. The second time was much more of a shock. I was hand feeding my female a cricket, she shot her toungue and got my finger and the cricket. She withdrew her tongue, also taking my finger in, and proceded to chew it. It ws very painful and actully broke the skin in the places where her teeth would be. When veileds feed, they curl theyr lips when chewing, much like great white sharks do. I think it is to reaveal their teeth that are hidden down there. But they do have alot of very small sharp tetth.

Just today I was holdin one of my veiled three month olds and she shot her tongue at my finger and pulled the finger tip in and started chewing. She let go of course and I was laughing because I let her do that just to see what she was going to do.
I am sure when she is an adult she will be able to draw blood easily. Her mom has never tried to bite she is just a lot of bluff but this little one is going to be a handfull. I am keeping that one for sure.

My 3 month old male veiled (before he left me ) was trying to eat a cherry out of my hand, and he couldn't seem to get the cherry and just kept biting my hand. He it me about 5 times, it didn't hurt at all. Of course, this was not an attack.
