Help me pick a Species

eminart Mar 04, 2007 09:02 PM

I'm thinking about getting a lizard. I currently have a 20 gal tank that I'd like to convert to a lizard home. So, I need something pretty small. I like collared lizards a lot, but I think they'll need more space. What can I get that would be ok in a 20 gal tank? Geckos are cool and all, but most of them stay hidden all day. I'd really prefer something diurnal. I don't really want to break the bank on whatever I get either. Anybody have any suggestions on what to get, where to get it, how much it might cost?

will you be able to buy a bigger set up if necessary?...i really like urmastyx, but im sure they will need a bigger setup, and the same goes for a bearded dragon...those are my two favorite...oh what about a collared lizard? those look cool..not sure about the setup though...

Probably your best bet would be a leopard or fat tail gecko.

Or if its a tall tank, you could set it up with a little waterfall and live plants and get a few green anoles. Anoles need UVB lighting, whereas geckos dont.

It's a tall. I actually did decide on a leopard gecko. I originally wanted something that wasn't nocturnal, but after extensive research, I decided on a leo. They meet all of my other requirements, except for the diurnal part and nothing else seems to fit the bill as closely. So, I now have one juvenile leopard gecko. I'll probably buy one more later when I'm positive on this one's sex.
