I Finally Got My Splendida!

Geckofanatic23 Mar 04, 2007 09:55 PM

After much searching, I finally found a place with a juvie splendida. This has been the birthday present I've been waiting for what seems like forever. Today, mom and I went up to Sacramento, (next year i'll actually be able to drive myself, whoopee!. We went to the zoo, and what do you know, mom set up a behind the scenes tour at the reptile house, which was too cool. They're doing a lot of conservation work with amphibians right now, but lot's of unusual reptiles too. Anyway, we then went back down a few miles, and got my gorgeous female splendida, about 16-18 inches, at the Lodi Serpentarium. Best day I've had in a while, just thought I'd share. I'll post pics tomorrow. Thanks a bunch for putting up with my long posts and questions!

That is awesome, your Mom must be super cool, that is a great gift. What colubrids were they working with at that zoo???

Yep she is awesome, and surprisingly, there weren't many colubrids on display or in the back. I recall one or two kinds of ratsnake, and a California Mountain Kingsnake. I also heard from the head reptile guy there that they had a cal king in the educational department. The main focus seemed to be amphibians right now. They also seemed to be putting a lot of effort into a prehensile tailed skink project. By the way, although it's not kingsnake related, this picture popped up on my camera earlier. This is my British grandmother who has feared snakes all her life. This shows what a Christmas with me (and my bp, kenyan sand boa, and rubber boa) can do!

I have to agree. Very cool mom to let you have such a wonderful pet. No such luck when I was growing up. But I more then made up for it by having a herp frindly wife.
