South Brewster

Doug Beckwith Mar 05, 2007 12:05 AM

Nancy and I went down to south Brewster county today. While it was a bit chilly, spring is definitely happening down there. The cotton woods are already green w/ leaves, the yuccas are blooming, and some places had a fair amount of Big Bend Blue Bonnets along the sides of the roads, although I suspect more will be out over the next couple of weeks. We feel extremely fortunate to finally be able to call Brewster county our home. Very fortunate indeed!

I need to know when the Giant Whites bloom. I'll be out there all next week and check on the ones in the park.

I'm not nearly as good w/ the flora as I should be, but I think they were the shag yuccas (Y.torreyi). They were in the lower elevations of BBNP, such as the main road and Castolon road. I/we did not notice any of the giants (Y.faxoniana) in bloom as of yet. We will probably go back down in a couple of weeks. I will try to pay more attention to type and let you know should we make it down.

How's the painting going?

I'm back in San Antonio already. I'll be in Marathon this coming Saturday for a week.

Thanks, I'll check on the faxonia's at Dagger Flat when I'm there next week.
