i just adopted an abused mangrove he was burnt all the way up his back when i got him home he hid for almost 2 weeks i left him alone and tried feed him prekilled which he has no intrest in. i then swithced to live mice which for me are hard to get due to dirty pet store conditions i only trust 1 place which is an hours drive away anyone have any idea on how to get him on prekilled or will i have to put more miles on my car?

without any kind of info on husbandry and cage setup, no one can tell you what the problem is.

check out our Water monitor caresheet at our site. that info would directly apply to your setup for the Mangrove. temps, hydration, diet, all of it can be applied.

once you get your husbandry squared away, the animal will come around, if it can.

best of luck.

i have him in a 5ft by 5ft custom aquarium style tank with 85%Hum. his tank temp is 85 with a basking area of 95-100 at night the temp goes to around mid 70s 2 large hides and a mis size pool with plenty of limbs to climb i keep about 65% of the tank coverd around with a news paper backing to reduce the stress of what goes on outside of his tank i think the main problem was his previous owner who left him with that bad burn he eats live but not as eager as my sav. i know they are known for their gluttony. but the pre killed he shows no intrest in some people told me to let him sit for a few days or a week with no food and then he should accept it i was just wondering if their were any tricks i could try b4 i resort to starving the poor guy.

without proper husbandry, you shouldn't expect a strong appetite at all. covering visuals of the cage is good, and ambient temp is fine, but you need a much higher basking temp if you want that monitor to eat. i would recommend 130F as a target basking temp.

that is assuming burns and wounds have been healed and scarred over. any fresh burns won't like any basking temp, making healing, feeding, and recovering that much more difficult.

My mangrove did the same thing and after about $400 at the vet and a couple days force feeding him some special "i/d" food he came around. Im not saying you should force feed him. In my case the temps were not quite right. Basking was about where yours is and I added a elevated spot. Problem is Im not sure exactly what did it. These folks are all pretty adamant about temps. Maybe verify his requirements and go from there. My guy does well with that elevated spot @ 115 degrees. Maybe this helps. Good luck
